Do it- Scared

Do it- Scared

There's an Instagram influencer named Elyse Meyers who has petitioned Nike to use the phrase "just do it- scared" to market to buyers with anxiety. The idea is that sometimes you just have to do the thing! Do the hard thing you've been wanting to do, dreaming to do, procrastinating to do. Do it- even if you're scared.

A friend of mine told me this week that sharing stories that fetter, or bind us to our faith are not always "too sacred"--sometimes it's just too scary. We fear what we can't control, and once a story is out there anyone can do anything with it.

But here's the thing, these are stories that are chained to our hearts, they are wholly ours and undeniable. No one can tell you they aren't true, or didn't happen, because they are so real and so true.

This week in our church's scripture study we read about Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego being thrown in the fiery furnace at seven times the normal heat. From the outside looking in it looked as though there were four persons in the furnace- even the King admitted that it looked like the Son of God! An angel even! Talk about an experience that fetters your heart to God.

When the three emerge the king says "Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, who hath sent an angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him". We have that same God! He can touch the hearts of those who hear or read our stories, and they can know that He is our God and that we trust Him with our hearts. So just share it- scared or not!
