What I learned at church today

What I learned at church today

It's been a long week. So long that I resisted my scripture study, resisted listening to that uplifting podcast and those conference talks I love to revisit. By the end of the week I felt crappy.

But today was our primary program at church, and it delivered. There was nothing outrageously special about it really. There were a few random outbursts of laughter and some good eye-rolling moments--but nothing crazy. What was really eye opening was the audiences' reaction. These tiny souls, who had prepared as best they could, were sharing intimate details about how they felt the Holy Ghost, what they loved about the scriptures and the hero stories inside. And we, the parents and friends, teachers, and leaders, were eating.it.up. Every eye was glued, every ear strained to hear and see and take it all in.

By the end of the program it was as if a spell had been cast over us. They'd gone fifteen minutes over and no one had even noticed.

Imagine if every sacrament meeting was this powerful! The Spirit was thick in every song and in every short testimony. The children's love for their Savior was palpable, and their invitation to come unto Him was undeniable.

And so another week started, and it's not going to be so long, and hard, and needlessly angsty. I'm going to remember that I am a child of God, Heavenly Father hears and answers my prayers, the Holy Ghost is always with me, and I can choose to serve the Lord- because that's what I learned at church today.
